                    Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a highly developed method of medicine and has been used in China for over 2000 years.  It differs from allopathic medicine in that it looks at the body as a whole system and illness or disease occurs as a result of an imbalance in that system.  It is also based on the ancient Chinese view of the universe.  This is the yin/yang theory which explains that all of nature is divided into two complementary opposites.  When these are in balance, life is harmonious.  Because humans are part of nature, yin/yang forces are active in them also.
When humans get out of balance,  illness or pain can be the  result.  Acupuncture is effective in restoring this natural balance.  Energy (Qi) flows throughout the body along channels called meridians. Insertion of needles at specific points along the meridians redirects the energy and assists the body to balance and heal itself.
Modern western science explains that acupuncture indirectly affects the nervous system allowing certain chemicals or hormones to be released which aid in restoring balance. Endorphins are released which relieve pain and anxiety.

                           Herbal Medicine Consultation
Your acupuncturist may recommend or you may request an herbal medicine consultation.  This is a separate appointment  from your acupuncture appointment.   We find that the combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbs can greatly improve results with many health conditions.  We currently offer Chinese herbs in capsule/tablet form.  We may also prescribe topical herbal products, such as liniments or patches, or offer nutritional/lifestyle advice to best address your specific condition.
Herbs are particularly useful for conditions caused by internal patterns of disharmony as well as external factors.   Your practitioner will know if herbs can be helpful for your condition and can select the preferred formula  to help maximize your healing process. Your practitioner is  NCCAOM board certified in herbal medicine.

Our pharmacy contains a broad variety of patent formulas, which are pre-made herbal formulas in tablet or capsule form.  We carry  Golden Flower, Blue Poppy, Health Concerns and Mayway brands, all US companies which are GMP quality tested and certified.
